Feinstdrähte

English translation: ultra-fine wire

German term or phrase: Feinstdrähte
This is part of the name of an R&D group:

microcables? microconductors? microfibres?

I wouldn't be surprised if it's one of those, but I'm not sure what the right term is in this context - also, the Feinstdraehte must be produced in a 'pulling procedure' analogous to that used to produce fibre optic cables..

Thanks again!

Explanation:
I think Ziehprozess would be wire drawing process. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wire_drawing

The ultra-fine wire was sandwiched between silicon chips and the bonded assembly then sliced to produce longitudinal and transverse sections of the wire in a form suitable for further processing into electron transparent samples.

Thanks Kim (& SwissTell) - I went with Kim's suggestion since it is generic and non-proprietary, and it seems likely that microwire is, and ultra-fine wire refers to filaments with a diametre of less than 1mm. Thanks again.
