snail souffle, escargot Explanation: Monica, it is really quite simple as opposed to the aforementioned proposal. Being in the restaurant business for some time, my recommendation would be that you maintain a simple translation throughout the menu. Escargot is a french word, but people who are going to order escargot will know what it is. After all, who says, "Snails!Mmmmm, think i'll try some...". Caracol, is just a plain, old, sea snail. sea snail ceviche Explanation: You don't need to translate ceviche - it would be like translating quiche. It's a very common dish in Mexico and South America and can be prepared with different kinds of seafood. I did a Google search and found the site below, a list of Mexican dishes. Maybe it's helpful for the job you're doing. The other site mentions a resort's ceviche bar that serves, among other things, "sea snail ceviche". Enjoy! Winkles marinated in lemon Explanation: Ceviche is a dish of raw fish marinated in lemon juice. Whilst caracol refers to snails in general, be they sea or land snails. However in English we say 'snails' for the land variety and 'winkles' for the sea variety. Winkles refers to any edible marine gastropod mollusc. The Oxford English Dictonary. sea-snails in lime / citric juice Explanation: Curious thing about ceviche is that the citric element is available only around the equator. One nice recipe is with onion, ginger and (tropical) lime juice. |
