"The main mirror is frequently cleaned using carbonic snow (weekly) and water (every six months), maintaining its reflectivity to an optimal value of ~88-90%."

dry ice

If it's refrigerated I assume it's this (solid carbon diopxide). Provides a temperature of about -75ºC.

carbon dioxide snow

1. "Dry ice" is a name sometimes applied to compressed carbon dioxide "snow," i.e. solid carbon dioxide with a temperature of -79 Celsius. Under normal conditions, carbon dioxide is a colorless and odorless gas with a density about 1½ times as high as that of air. Like water, it can occur in a gaseous, liquid, or, solid state, depending on the physical conditions. In addition, carbon dioxide possesses the property of sublimation, i.e., it can pass directly from the solid to the gaseous state without becoming liquid.

To make dry ice, you start with a high-pressure container full of liquid carbon dioxide. When you release the liquid carbon dioxide from the tank, the expansion of the liquid and the high-speed evaporation of carbon dioxide gas cools the remainder of the liquid down to the freezing point, where it turns directly into a solid. If you have ever seen a carbon dioxide fire extinguisher in action you have seen this carbon dioxide snow form in the nozzle. You compress the carbon dioxide snow to create a block of dry ice.
