I'm just guessing at this based on the context. Can anyone make heads or tails of what they are really trying to say here?

ERE = Expediente de Regulación de Empleo

Original:
Por este motivo y debido a la lenta recuperación del consumo, [la empresa] ha instado al Departament d’Empresa i Ocupació de la Generalitat de Catalunya un ERE temporal que afectará a 40 personas, la mayoría de las cuales se rescatarán del mismo por un período mínimo de 4 meses durante el período estival.

Rough draft:
In order to achieve this goal, and in light of lacklustre return to consumption, [the company] has requested a temporary ERE (Expediente de Regulación de Empleo – an employment regulation plan) from the Department of Enterprise and Employment of the Government of Catalonia which will affect 40 employees, the majority of which will be temporarily laid off for a minimum period of four months in the summer period.

Well. In the end we asked the client. It simply means they are being laid off and then rehired. The ERE basically gives the company authorisation to do this. Thanks for all your help! :)

Ben, I'd consult with the client. I can't see the logic of forecasting more production for this kind of business in summer. If it were a company in the tourism sector it might make sense, but shop fittings? I think that your translation has to be correct, but the Spanish is so fuzzy it requires a clarification of the writer's intentions.

I agree with FVS The key sentence here, at least to me is "del mismo". 40 people will be affected by the regulation plan, most of them will be "rescued" from said plan. Those affected by the plan will be compensated, the remaining workers (la mayoria de plantilla) will be trained so they can become a multipurpose team...

Not sure It makes more sense to me if they are retraining people who are laid off than retraining people who are still at their jobs. And, more importantly, why would they be compensating people who are never laid off.
