I'm having problems with "ergänzt sich selbst" - my first thought is that is selects its own members, but the following passage is about "electing" members to positions not "selecting" new members. Any clarification gratefully received.

The other formulation on that Linguee page is longer but makes the position even clearer: "If a board member drops out during his year in office, the board may decide amongst themselves who will act as temporary replacement until the next elections."
