Well, the word " الجليس" means another "notary" and it has nothing to do with "registrar".
In Tunisia, when two people contract marriage before a notary public, there must be another notary. We refer to this notary as " الجليس".
In French, it is "Notaire assesseur".
By the way, this is the official word used in Tunisia.

As noted earlier, it means another "notary", not a mere "companion", or a "registrar". In French, the official word used in Tunisia is "Notaire assesseur".
