Local History Curatorial Placement
Might this option be helpful ?
'Placement' = the temporary posting of someone in a workplace to enable them to gain work experience.
The link refers to an art history course but illustrates the use of 'curatorial placement'.

Also, I know that Краеведческий is translated from Russian into 'local lore' but never (at least in the UK) have I come across a museum called a 'local lore museum'. Museums that have exhibits referring to local history and culture are referred to simply as 'local history museums'. There are museums on 'folklore' which focus specifically on 'folk culture' rather than general local history. I hope that is helpful.

The Misha
: Local lore museum does in fact sound ridiculous. Fishermen in a bar telling tall stories-that's local lore.
