mine face / pit face Explanation: It certainly sounds like it, Paty. Tope in Mexican mining usage means the "face", but I think it's called the mine face, rather than the rock face. In mining, the face is the surface where the mining work is advancing. In surface mining it is commonly called pit face, in underground mining a common term is mine face. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Face_(mining) frente/tope (Mx) > face, front Diccionario de Minería - Sillano y Pérez Rojas -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 16 mins (2017-04-25 17:14:08 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- With "vivos", I suppose it might even mean "exposed face": Definition of coal face i. The mining face from which coal is extracted by longwall, room, or narrow-stall system. See Also: face ii. A working place in a colliery where coal is hewn, won, got, or gotten from the exposed face of a seam by face workers. https://www.mindat.org/glossary/coal_face I couldn't find any definitions in Spanish, unfortunately. |
