I would like to suggest 'Riefen' as the correct form of the typo 'Riffen'
And "scoring" certainly fits the context.
Scoring is a little more serious than scratches, usually making the part in question no longer usable.

That's most certainly either a type or it has been written by one of those fellas who spell "Haken" with "ck". ;-)
Not quite sure whether scratches will work, but this should get you going.
