Instruction manual for a bending machine. What do they mean by "invertire una fase" here?

I'm not very good with electricity, but I think that if amotor is wired up incorrectly (i.e. the wires are in the wrong terminals!)it will rotate in the wrong direction (e.g. clockwise instead of anticlockwise). In that case you would need to "reverse the phases" in the connection to the mains supply.

P.S. In industrial motors, the power is usually 3-phased, with or without neutral (usually called ground, even if not always grounded) - this means power cables have three connectors (phases) plus (eventually) a fourth for the neutral.

P.S. #2 \"invertire una fase\" = Lit. \"Invert a phase\" means exchanging two of th three power connectors - these effectively \"inverts\" the phase of the current vs. voltage, as represented in a Cartesian system of coordinates (for sinusoidal currents, like those used in power lines).

Explanation:
It's done either by using special phase switches or by connecting wires as it is specified in the technical specifications for such case. Unfortunately, I learnt those matters about 20 years ago and I can't explain the exact sense of the phrase but the term is exact :-(

Explanation:
In un motore trifase è molto importante il senso di rotazione; prima di accoppiare il motore alla macchina, si verifica che i cavi siano correttamente connessi, dando corrente per un breve tempo (bastano 1-2 secondi); qualora il senso di rotazione fosse l'inverso di quello voluto, basta scollegare due (es. R ed S) dei tre fili (R-S-T) ed invertire la loro posizione, ovvero dove vi era R mettere S e dove vi era S mettere R. Questo significa invertire la fase ovvero il senso di rotazione del motore.
