Bezeichnung für Verfahren zur Übertragung einer Darstellung. Pausen können auf verschiedene Weisen entstehen. Entweder wird die zu kopierende Vorlage auf einem darübergelegten transparenten Papier nachgezogen, oder man legt unter die Vorlage ein mit weißem Papier unterlegtes Kohlepapier und zieht die Vorlage nach. Mit Hilfe des Kohlepapiers werden die nachgezogenen Linien auf das darunterliegende Papier übertragen. Die zum Durchzeichnen verwendeten Pauspapiere (heute Karbon- oder Kohlepapier) waren früher oft mit Rotocker versehen, wodurch die so genannte "Rotpause" entstand. Das Übertragen eines Motivs vom * Karton auf die Wand kann auch in Form der * Lochpause vorgenommen werden.


Die englische Bezeichnung hierfür wäre "trace".
