but the sentence you gave is more complicated, an exact translation may not be good. I would offer a somewhat more free translation for:
"the nights of the lover are long when he is hurt in absence of beloved":

sevdiğinin yokluğunda acı çeken için geceler uzundur
or
sevgilisinin yokluğunda acı çeken için geceler uzundur

I am not sure that an "if" should be at the beginning of this sentence. But if "if" is there :), then the Turkish sentence has to be:

sevdiğinin yokluğunda acı çeken için geceler uzunsa...
or
sevgilisinin yokluğunda acı çeken için geceler uzunsa...
