Dutch term

opkomst

Dutch to English Medical Medical (general) inentingsbewijs
"Als goed gevolg van de inenting wordt beschouwd de *opkomst* van ten minste één volledig ontwikkelde pokpuist van ten minste 1/2 cm lengte."

This term appears on a vaccination certificate from the first half of the previous century. How should it be rendered accurately here? 'Development' comes to mind, but doesn't seem to collocate. RSVP. TIA. Cheers, R.

emergence

"Emergence of a pimple" (a very common English expression) is meant here, I guess, eith "opkomst".

swelling

Hi Robert - my old Ten Bruggenkate (pre-spelling change) suggests swelling for opkomst and pock for pokpuist - I think today we would use something like "presents with a swelling of at least .... of the pock mark.
