English term

To index

English to French Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng Thermoplastic forms
I am not sure about the meaning of index used as a verb "the table will out-stroke or index to the next station" - context : operator manual of a thermoplastic equipment, heating then moulding parts. Thanks in advance for your help.

Discussion

Tony M Sep 11, 2006:
'to index' in this sense usually means to fix the position in a step-movement situation; it sounds as if the moving table can move on to the next station, in which case, it mustn't arrive just any-old-where, but must be given a fixed position (indexed)
