Schweinestall or in der Scheisse sitzen

Okay, some more expressions for you.
If hell of a mess relates to something <physical> such as a very untidy room, someone might shout: Das ist ja wie im Schweinestall. or: Das ist ja ein schoener Sauhaufen.
If hell of a mess relates to the (difficult) situation or frame of mind of a person (as in: she is in a hell of a mess, she has just lost her job and her house...), you could use:
X sitzt ganz schoen in der Scheisse. or
X steckt in wahnsinnigen/schrecklichen Schwierigkeiten.
Loads of possibilities.
Apologies, I am sure you know where the Umlaute are supposed to be.
