This is a proverb in the auto world; may not be directly applicable but you could play with it.

Your adaptation works, though it's no longer "proverbial." Also, you could use "horsepower."
"Body-colored trim" is one way to translate "Volllackierung." But that should really be a new question....

Per Harry's note, somehow "no subsititue for cc's" or "no substitute for kilowatts" doesn't have the same ring.... :-) The original is all about muscle cars, after all, and "die gibt's nicht in metrisch."
