Nothing else in the text to shed any light on this. However, and without giving any names, perhaps a bit of company history will help:
xxx was floated on the stock exchange several years ago, which was followed by 3 years of record growth. They were then taken over by yyy. I can only assume that yyy's financial pulling power was given a much needed boost through the acqusition of xxx.
Does this make any sense?
Incidentally, this appears right in the middle of my corporate design brochure!
