reati contravvenzionali

Italian to English Law/Patents Law (general) decision
does anybody know what type of crimes this refers to specifically? Another translator suggested "petty crimes" for example. In this document it refers to company x paying company y "bonuses" etc. for using their products.

misdemeanours/petty offences

Art. 39 Reato: distinzione fra delitti e contravvenzioni
I reati si distinguono in delitti e contravvenzioni, secondo la diversa specie delle pene per essi rispettivamente stabilite da questo codice.

Namely, "contravvenzioni" are punished by "arresto e ammenda" (and "supplementary" punishment), but not incarceration, and are a "less serious" class of offence.
It would be a bit time-consuming to provide a full list of "contravvenzioni" (the entire third volume of the Italian Penal Code is dedicated to this task)!
Peer comment(s):

agree Patricia Crotty : De Franchis also gives non-arrestable offence or technical offence, but for a US audience I think misdemeanour is best

Thank you for the agree, Patricia. I wonder about the "non-arrestable" bit given that "arresto" is one of the two punishments indicated.
