ça n'a pas beaucoup de sens ou bien le terme italien est fort mal choisi:
on parle à ma connaissance d'abbattimento degli inquinanti della combustione ou d'abbattimento dei prodotti della combustione (fumées, gaz imbrûlés, etc.) mais pas d'abbattimento della combustione tout court
L'idée est celle de réduction comme le dit Serenat mais je demandrais des détails au client si les phrases qui précèdent ne précisent pas la chose (quel est le processus décrit avant, c'est-à-dire à quoi se réfère ce "questo funzionamento..." ? )
