How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:
An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)
A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).
Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.
When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.
* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

j'ai eu le même doute que toi, en devant traduire cette expression de l'espagnol vers le portugais (cf. http://www.proz.com/kudoz/912044).
"Consoler" s'enquadre bien ici, mais à ce moment là, tu zapes la fin de la phrase et ne parle pas de "situation". Aussi, je te propose "calmer la situation".

Refroidir:am. Laisser refroidir qqch. : attendre que les sentiments, les tensions se soient apaisés.
Teniendo en cuenta la definición precedente tal vez se prodría traducir: "... la grand-mère essaie ou tente de refroidir la situation..."
O quizá:
"...la grand-mère tente (essaie) vraiement d'apporter du réconfort à la situation..."
"...tente ou essaie d'alléger la souffrance..."
Espero aportar otro granito de arena a tu traducción, aunque creo que las opciones de otros colegas son muy válidas.
