The recent D&BTS case showed a useful shift to watch for: after Gmail addresses drew attention, the sender moved to a domain that merely resembled a real company’s name.

I’ve just updated my free Scam Verifier on ConsultingTranslator.com to address this tactic. It can compare a sender’s email domain with the company website you find independently, and flag misspellings, added words such as “-jobs” or “-careers”, misleading subdomains and character substitutions. The main check works without AI.

It’s a warning aid, not proof of fraud: if you don’t provide the genuine website, the tool says that it remains unverified rather than guessing it. The practical lesson is to locate the company’s real site yourself, compare the full domain, and confirm the person and project through a known channel before sending work, money or credentials.
