In this context I believe that the text implies that the rights in question are so important that they are afforded individual protection ("defensa autónoma")independently of each other. I would have to see more of your text to venture further and to know exactly which two rights are involved, since Article 18.1 of the Spanish Constitution reads "Se garantiza el derecho al honor, a la intimidad personal y familiar y a la propia imagen." (maybe "personal privacy" and "family privacy"?) But I do not believe the text is refering to self-defense (or self-defence), since it is not one of the rights guaranteed under Título I of the Spanish Constitution. In other respects, self-defense is called "defensa propia" in the Spanish Código Penal, and an Internet search shows that this is likewise the term for "self-defense" used in the criminal codes of Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Venezuela, etc.
