Arabic term
ند اسود
Arabic to English
Other
Botany
What kind of incense is this?
I am searching what is this particular incense or ingredient called "ند اسود"?
It is used in arabic esoteric practices as compound or separated ingredient for boukhur بخور incenses.
It could be herb, wood or some kind of resin.
I have searched in many dictionaries and the main translation is agarwood/aloeswood but it's not actually this.
There is indeed such kind of agarwood called عود ند but "ند اسود" is different and not related to it.
The other possible translation from dictionaries is for amber or ambergris but it is very rare and expensive and the average people can't afford to use it, so it's unlikely.
And lastly I assume it could be labdanum, which is a substitute for ambergris and has black color.
I spoke also with egyptians because this incense is known there but they don't know what exactly is.
