When you see this term, be prudent about the situation where people use it, as I mentioned in a previous question. If it is used in specifying an object "shared among many individuals" it indicates a ratio/share/percentage or the amount that distributed there between. However, for example, in the above-mentioned link where people explained "房屋之持分面積係指納稅義務人所擁有之房屋本身之主建物面積加上附屬建物(例如:陽台、花台、公共設施……等) 之面積", the number you see is definitedly NOT shared. The owner have it completely.
In other word, 持分 may be used to indicate "a portion", but can be also used to say "to own/possess/hold" something.
I have two houses in Taipei. When it comes to real money, millions, you will be very very careful about the meaning of each number. :)
