English term

communication of use

English to French Bus/Financial Finance (general) Contrat pour un conférencier
Bonsoir,

Je traduis un contrat de services pour un conférencier et dans la rubrique relative aux coordonnées bancaires, je me retouve face à l'expression "communication of use".

Contexte :

"ACCOUNT NUMBER
BANK GIRO NUMBER
BANK NAME
ACCOUNT HOLDER NAME
IBAN
BIC (SWIFT CODE)
COMMUNICATION OF USE"

Voyez-vous à quoi cela correspond ?

Merci beaucoup.

Discussion

Tony M May 22, 2012:
Odd expression, take care! The definitions Isabelle has found are all of course perfcetly valid; however, the fact remains that expressing it thus in EN is odd. While we might say something is "no use", we can't usually say it is "of use", unless we go on to qualify that in some way — like 'to whom'. If we want to say the opposite of "it's no use", we wouldn't naturally says "it's of use" — we'd more likely say "it's some use".

So I suspect here we have a telegraphed expression, and given the apparently banking context, I'd suggest either something like: "Communication (notification) of when this credit facility is used", or else perhaps "notification of what it is being used for" — both of those could plausibly be shortened in such a way as to yield this otherwise odd expression. It really does all depend on the rest of the context — like do we have any idea what it is that might be used?

Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : All that is correct, of course; but the expression in EN is odd, and I suspect there may be more to it than meets the eye. I suspect this may mean 'communication (notification) of when a credit facility is used' (for example) — or for what it is used.
