Parent" is a field in the master data in SAP on each cost object. In the classic MIT system, the parent account is the main project and the WBS elements listed under the project are child accounts. The parent/child relationship is an MIT legacy structure that is not supported in SAP. For sponsored activity, these structures have been replaced by project. In the future, the parent field on a WBS element may be used to show the immediate predecessor of a WBS element, when the project has more than two levels.
