/about/ risk of out-of-sequence that may occur with pyrotechnic systems where 'capscatter' on long down-the-hole delays may overlap with surface timing. In the case of /detonator/ ABC, the accuracy is within 1ms of program time, based on in-hole VOD measurements taken during field trials.

cap
(n) detonator, detonating device - a mechanical or electrical explosive device or a small amount of explosive; can be used to initiate the reaction of a disrupting explosive

This is because electronic detonators eliminate the inherent cap scatter to either side of the delay found in pyrotechnic detonators, which can be as much as 5 to 15 percent. A pyrotechnic detonator with a 300 ms delay and a 10 percent cap scatter will fire +/- 30 ms of the 300 ms target time, McClure says.
"From field experience, we have found that even a 3 ms cap scatter can negatively affect the outcome of the blast, making it less effective," says Doug Bartley, president of DBA Consulting. Electronic detonators have accuracies as tight as 0.1 ms, so the blast will fire as designed, improving blast performance.

If firing times are too tight and don't account for cap scatter, a surface or down-line tube can be cut before the tube is initiated, resulting in a misfire.
