English term

em-box

GBK English to Slovenian Tech/Engineering Printing & Publishing
The box around a font character of a given 'size' as designed by the designer. It is sometimes referred to as an em-square. The theoretical square that glyphs are designed upon. Its height is the intended distance between lines of type in the same type size. It is the design grid on which the glyph outlines are defined.
Example sentences:
The ideographic em-box center baseline is defined as halfway between the ideographic em-box top and bottom baselines in the horizontal axis, and halfway between the ideographic em-box left and right baselines in the vertical axis. (Microsoft Corporation)
This text uses the em-box definition, for simplicity’s sake. In replaced elements, the content area is the intrinsic height of the element plus any margins, borders, or padding. (oreilly.com)
During development it was noticed that there could be placement errors if the em box, the ascender and descender don't match. (wiki.apache.org)
