9-na-pulgadang Pamutol na Plais

Hi Marta,

Your main source words "Side Cut Pliers" is unfortunately, one of several words used in the field of construction and woodwork that do not have direct equivalents in Tagalog. Thus, the original translation provided could be accepted as it could be understood by Tagalog speakers, especially those who have been sufficiently educated.

However, there exists in Tagalog a colloquial translation for "pliers", and this is "plais" (rhymes with "ice").

If "Side cut Pliers" refers to pliers that cut wire on the side (as compared to pliers that cut on the top or at the apex), then you could refer to this as "Pamutol na Plais" which means "cutting pliers".

If you could tolerate wordiness, you could go as far as "Plais na sa Gilid ang Putol" which means "Pliers with side cutters".

Either way, you could add as a prefix, "9-na-pulgadang" which is the correct translation for "9-inch).

Hope this helps!

>if we were to use \"plais na pahilis ang pagputol\", there is a possibility that the effective meaning \"side cut\" would refer to how THE PLIERS operate (i.e., in a sideways motion) rather than referring to where the cutting edges are located...

let's see. if we were to use "plais na pahilis ang pagputol", there is a possibility that the effective meaning "side cut" would refer to how operate (i.e., in a sideways motion) rather than referring to where the cutting edges are located...
Something went wrong...
