lesbyan ako

There is no Tagalog word for lesbian so Tagalog speakers would use the English word but pronounced using Tagalog phonetical rules. Hence the word above. I think I've heard "lesbyana" as well but I'm not sure. I would use "lesbyan".

agree Leticia Parks : `tomboy' ako

agree Jake Estrada FCIL CL : yup, "tomboy" = lesbian in Tagalog. However, some would regard "tomboy" colloquially as a deregatory term against female homosexuals, while some wouldn't. At any rate you could use tomboy if you are confident with using it...or "lesbian" to "play safe".

disagree tnavalta : "Lesbyana" is the more popular term (bandied about on TV). "Tomboy" has macho connotations, and has thus been found to be incapable of including the very feminine women whose sexual preference is for equally very feminine women.

disagree ShanL : Most filipinos in the provinces would understand "Tomboy ako" better. They don't often use the word Lesbian.
