Context: The SNAPshot DSR Performance Check Set consists of two SNAP devices with standardized printed spots in blue plastic bases. One device produces a negative ratio and the other a positive ratio. You read the Check Set devices as you would any other SNAP device. We recommend that the Check Set devices be used daily to verify the performance of your SNAPshot DSR Reader. Be sure to store the Check Set devices out of direct sunlight.

Question: What does "negative/positive" means here? "Less than zero" or " more than zero"?

Decrease/increase of rate

In this case it is not related to the mathematical value of zero.It has to do with increase or decrease in rate or ageing, as in chemicals. I consulted with a technologist.
