'atheromatous beds' is used only once, in one reference text. The problem with 'beds' is that it might cause confusion with the vessel wall itself: vascular bed (Gefäßbett).

With Beete, the atheromatous "Auflagerungen" are meant, so plaques is IMO the best choice.
