Non-PRO Hebrew to English Art/Literary Religion
Bible. 1 Thessalonians 5:19 "Do not put out the Spirit's fire.."

Discussion

The New Testament was originally written in Greek. Do you really want to know what it means in Hebrew?

Proposed translations

6 hrs

lo tekhabu et ha-ru'akh

My version does not mention any fire: the English says 'quench not the spirit' (of course, quench implies fire). The Hebrew has a similar verb that implies quenching:

lo tekhabu et ha-ru'akh
לא תכבו את הרוח

= not you-will-quench the spirit

In modern Hebrew you would probably use a command (rather than a future form), and if you must have the word fire, then

al tekhabu et ru'akh ha-esh
אל תכבו את רוח האש

disagree Talya : רוח האש is the fire's spirit. The question was about the Spirit's fire.

אש הרוח (esh ha-ruach) or אש הנשמה (esh ha-neshama)

אש (esh)= fire
רוח = wind or spirit
נשמה = spirit, soul
The complete phrase would be את אש הרוח (הנשמה) לא תכבה (et esh ha-ruach [ha-neshama] lo techa-be)
