Hungarian term

(...) Ha éppen sört fog a keze, akkor valamivel könnyebb, (...)

Non-PRO Hungarian to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature short story
There is some context from BEFORE this part of a sentence:

"(...) épp az anyjára ütött, kissé kreol arc, almodozó, szürke szemek, (...) mindenkit rögtön az anyjára emlékezteti, az ember azt se tudja, hová nézzen."

And here is the whole problematic sentence:

"(...) Ha éppen sört fog a keze, akkor valamivel könnyebb, a kis pohár nem jó, abból kilöttyenhet, ha felindul, annyit meg nem ér. (...)" - the first part is the problem.

Any explanation or translation by a native speaker would be really appreciated. Thank you. :)

alcohol problem ...

The description suggests that the character might have a drinking problem; the first part translates to "(...) it's a bit easier when (s)he's grasping a beer (...). The second part tells us how much (s)he cherishes every drop and won't want to waste any; "a small glass is no good; (s)he might spill some when (s)he gets carried away, and that's not worth it (...)"
Since the character takes after her/his mother and reminds people of her, I would guess it's a female, but I'm sure you can tell from the rest of your text. The language of the original is rather casual, as you can see from my suggested English translation. I hope this helps. :)
Note from asker:
Thank you very, very much! The character is in fact male, but your explanation fits it all, I was considering that it's easy when he has a beer, but wasn't really sure about that part. Thank you again :)
