This is the name of my house near Melbourne, Australia, which I believe to be Welsh. I would love to know what it means! The house is high in the hills with a good view.
Thankyou!

"llofft" (lloft is probably a mis-spelling, "f" in Welsh sounds like English "v", "ff" like English "f") means loft, bedroom, etc. basically the upstairs of a house.
"wen" comes from "gwyn" "white".
"Gwen" is the feminine form (llofft is a feminine noun) but the "g" disappears when it comes directly after the noun (this is distinctive feature of Welsh grammar). Gwyn can also mean "blessed".

Comment: "Colin,
Thankyou very much for your help.
Other people have suggested that 'lloft' or 'llofft' could mean a high place, or gallery, with a view (which fits with the house).
With your alternative definition of 'gwyn' to mean 'blessed',
is it possible that 'Llofft-Wen' means 'Place of blessed view', or similar?
Or is this stretching it too far, and wishful thinking?
Thanks again for your help.
