Having been raised as a Canadian citizen in Japan, I grew up speaking English and Japanese equally. My major at university was Pacific and Oriental Studies. In Canada, I worked in trading and marketing (1980 - '83), both of which required translating and interpreting. After returning to Japan, I taught English as a second language at a junior high and high school for 23 years. I still teach ESL at universities while I give instruction in translation/technical translation (J-E/E-J) at a business and language school.
For the past two years, I have been engaged in telephone conference interpretations in a variety of specialized topics and have been very pleased with the feedback.
Meanwhile, I have been translating for 25 years here in Hiroshima, for the local industries including motor-vehicle and tourism, as well as peace efforts. Many of my translation projects include narration recordings, for which my experience in television and radio have helped a great deal.
I also enjoy singing the Blues. My husband and I perform old-fashioned blues from the 1930's onward. ♪
My biggest sales point is that my translations don't sound like translations. That's because I take the time to fully understand the original document before "rewriting" it in the target language.
