Pilier du milieu chorégraphique de Québec, elle connaît un formidable essor depuis quelques années. Son travail, réputé accessible, esthétique et profondément humaine, rejoint un large public, de toute les générations et de tous les milieux. La qualité de son produit artistique est souligné en 2006 par une nomination au Prix Ville de Québec, la plus pres- tigieuse distinction culturelle de la Capitale. La compagnie est aussi promue dans 50 pays comme l’une des 30 meilleures entreprises canadiennes des arts de la scène avec le DVD Élite Cinars 2006.
C’est à Montréal en 1999 qu’Harold Rhéaume fonde Le fils d’Adrien danse. Il la baptise ainsi en mémoire de son père, disparu avant même de voir son fils danser. Désirant renouer avec ses racines, l’artiste revient s’installer à Québec en 2000. Pratiquement seul pour mener sa barque il propose Écho, un one man show intime et personnel «(...) une mise à nu qui a gagné la sympathie du public» (La Presse). Son solo tourne à Montréal, en Ontario et à Lille en France. Presque simultanément, il produit son premier spectacle jeunesse avec les comédiens Martin Faucher et Daniel Parent. Qualifiés de parfaits ambassadeurs pour initier les enfants à la danse, Les Cousins remportent un franc succès au Québec, en Ontario, en Belgique et en France.
Rhéaume crée trois autres shows pour les jeunes par la suite : Éclipse (2000-2001), L’île aux valises (2002) et F.U.L.L. (2003). Son public adulte n’est pas en reste. Au Québec comme en France, il l’émeut jusqu’aux larmes avec la déchirante Morta (2002) «(...) qui tire à bout portant» selon La Presse. Puis vient C.O.R.R., un sensible hommage à la Femme qui se hisse au top 10 de l’hebdo culturel ICI (Montréal) en 2003.
De 2004 à 2006, il codirige Les Lundis de la danse au Théâtre La Bordée (Québec) qui invitent les chorégraphes à présenter leur libre interprétation dansée d’une pièce de théâtre. Rhéaume donne le coup d’envoi avec une audacieuse relecture des Feluettes, qualifiée par Radio-Canada de «meilleur spectacle de l’année» à Québec. C’est dans cette période qu’il aborde un «tournant réussi» (La Presse) avec CLASH (2005) qui lui fait goûter au succès populaire. Bigarré et audacieux, CLASH fait un tabac aux quatre coins du Québec jusqu’en 2009, faisant même un saut en Angleterre. Le show de danse – tel est son sous-titre – est vu par près de 6 000 personnes.
En 2007, Le fils d’Adrien ne chôme pas. Il réalise 3 territoires quotidiens en coproduction avec Création Caféine et l’Agora de la danse. Il s’envole ensuite en France pour achever Variations mécaniques à la Maison des Arts de Créteil (MAC). Cette création, qui allie danse et sculptures, avait été amorcée trois ans plus tôt au Centre culturel canadien (Paris). Variations... est une coproduction avec la MAC et le Festival Escapades (France).
Été 2008, c’est la consécration pour Le fils d’Adrien avec Le fil de l’Histoire, sa pro- duction pour le 400e de Québec qui fait de la danse une des vedettes des festivités. Au cours des 10 représentations, 5 000 personnes empoignent Le fil avec les danseurs, donnant lieu à des moment d’une grande émotion. Encensé par les médias, le spectacle soulève un impact tel que Rhéaume remporte cette année-là le Prix du développement culturel au Gala d’excellence des arts et de la culture de Québec. À la demande générale, Le fil connaît une 2e édition en 2009, également couronnée de succès.

Le fils d'Adrien was established in Montreal in 1999, by Harold Rhéaume. The name honours Rhéaume's father, who did not live to see his son perform. Rhéaume returned to his Quebec City roots in 2000. Working mostly on his own, he created Écho, a personal and intimate one-man show that "won the audience over" (La Presse). This solo performance toured, stopping in Montreal, Sudbury (Ontario) and Lille (France). At this time also Rhéaume produced his first show for young audiences, with actors Martin Faucher and Daniel Parent. Described as the perfect introduction to dance for young people, Les Cousins toured successfully in Quebec, Ontario, Belgium and France.
Three more shows for young audiences followed: Éclipse (2000-2001), L'île aux valises (2002) and F.U.L.L. (2003). Rhéaume didn't abandon his adult audience: the heart-breaking Morta (2002) brought tears to the eyes of dance fans on both sides of the Atlantic; La Presse likened the experience to being "shot at point-blank range." Next up was C.O.R.R., a sensitive tribute to women that made ICI Magazine's top-10 list for 2003.
From 2004 to 2006 Rhéaume co-coordinated Monday Night Dance (Les Lundis de la danse), where local choreographers created original works based on plays currently running at the Théâtre de la Bordée (Quebec City). Rhéaume struck first with a bold rereading of Les Feluettes, described as Quebec City's "best show of the year" by Radio-Canada. Then came CLASH (2005), a "successful new direction" (La Presse). Gutsy and colourful, CLASH toured Quebec continuously until 2009, stopped off in England, and garnered acclaim wherever it went.
2007 was a busy year for Le fils d'Adrien. First Rhéaume produced 3 territoires quotidiens, with Création Caféine and l'Agora de la danse. Then came Mechanical Variations, another co-production (with the Maison des Arts de Créteil (MAC) and the Escapades Festival in France). In the Variations, first seen three years earlier at the Canadian Cultural Centre in Paris, dance and sculptures come together as never before.
The summer of 2008 was momentous for Le fils d'Adrien. Le fil de l'Histoire, its production for Quebec City's 400th Anniversary, put dance in the spotlight, at the heart of the city's anniversary celebrations. Over the course of 10 performances 5 000 spectators had the opportunity to "grasp the thread of history," holding onto a long red ribbon alongside the dancers, joining in the production, engendering solemn, emotional moments.
