Bio
Maya El Khoury is a multilingual interpreter, sworn translator, cultural manager, copywriter, and university instructor with nearly two decades of international experience at the highest institutional and diplomatic levels. Working fluently in Arabic, English, French, and Italian, she is recognized for her precision, discretion, and ability to operate seamlessly in complex, high-stakes, and multicultural environments.
Since 2006, Maya has delivered simultaneous and consecutive interpretation and certified translation services for more than 400 conferences, seminars, and specialized trainings across Lebanon, the UAE, Oman, Kuwait, Italy, the United States, Jordan, and Spain. Her portfolio includes leading international and governmental institutions such as the U.S. State Department (ATA Program), USCENTCOM and the U.S. Department of Defense, European Union and European Commission, United Nations agencies (UNHCR, UNDP, UNICEF, FAO, IOM), World Bank, IMF, British Council, USAID, Red Cross and IFRC, GCC-STAT, as well as Arab and European parliaments, armed forces, and security institutions.
Maya has served as Lead Interpreter for senior officials, and has managed and coordinated large multilingual teams in demanding operational settings, notably for UNHCR’s Refugee Status Determination Office in Beirut and the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Bureau (INL). Her subject-matter expertise spans criminal and military law, security and policing, cybercrime, diplomacy, finance, politics, education, arts and culture, marketing, and academia, enabling her to bridge linguistic and cultural gaps with clarity and authority.
In parallel, Maya brings a strong background in copywriting and strategic communication, having created print, radio, and television campaigns for leading agencies and multinational corporations.
Since 2023, Maya has been a University Instructor at the Lebanese International University, where she teaches Simultaneous and Consecutive Interpreting through applied simulations, as well as Academic English, mentoring students and advising on senior research projects.
Her professional profile is further distinguished by her leadership in the arts. As Program Manager of an International Festival of Music and the Performing Arts (2018–2020), Maya curated international programs, negotiated contracts with hundreds of artists.
Maya holds a Master’s Degree in Interpreting and a B.A. in Translation and Languages from the École de Traducteurs et d’Interprètes de Beyrouth (ETIB), Université Saint-Joseph, and has pursued advanced coursework in Diplomacy and Strategic Negotiations. She also holds certifications in English Language Teaching, Cultural Diplomacy, and Arts and Culture Strategy.
An accomplished artist, Maya has a rich background in opera, jazz, and visual arts, with performances, masterclasses, and exhibitions in Lebanon and Europe. Her interdisciplinary profile—at the intersection of language, diplomacy, and the arts—positions her as a trusted voice and cultural mediator in international contexts.
