1. DEFINITION OF PRODUCE
This Standard applies to commercial varieties of chayotes grown from Sechium edule (Jacq.) Sw., of the Cucurbitaceae family, to be supplied fresh to the consumer, after preparation and packaging. Chayotes for industrial processing are excluded.
2. PROVISIONS CONCERNING QUALITY
2.1 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS In all classes, subject to the special provisions for each class and the tolerances allowed, the chayotes
must be: -whole; -sound, produce affected by rotting or deterioration such as to make it unfit for consumption is
excluded; -clean, practically free of any visible foreign matter; -practically free of pests affecting the general appearance of the produce; -practically free of damage caused by pests; -free of abnormal external moisture, excluding condensation following removal from cold storage; -free of any foreign smell and/or taste; -firm; -fresh in appearance; -free of damage caused by low temperatures; -practically free of bruising; -free of damage caused by the sun; -free of fibrous flesh; -free of hard spines; -free of visible signs of germination.
2.1.1 The chayotes must have been carefully picked and have reached an appropriate degree of development and ripeness in accordance with criteria proper to the variety and to the area in which they are grown. The development and condition of the chayotes must be such as to enable them:
-to withstand transport and handling; and
-to arrive in satisfactory condition at the place of destination.

Tiêu chuẩn này được áp dụng đối với các loại quả su su thương mại mọc từ cây có tên khoa học là Sechium edile (Jacq) Sw, thuộc Họ bầu bí, được cung cấp dưới dạng sản phẩm sạch cho khách hàng sau khi qua sơ chế và đóng gói. Không bao gồm quả su su được chế biến công nghiệp.
2. CÁC QUY ĐỊNH VỀ CHẤT LƯỢNG
2.1 YÊU CẦU TỐI THIỂU
Trong tất cả các trường hợp, theo các điều kiện riêng và các giới hạn cho phép, quả su su phải:
- Còn nguyên vẹn;
- Lành lặn, những sản phẩm bị thối rữa hoặc hỏng không đạt tiêu chuẩn tiêu dùng sẽ bị loại trừ;
- Sạch sẽ, hầu như không còn nhìn thấy một chất bẩn nào bám ngoài;
- Hầu như không bị một dấu vết nào ở bên ngoài quả do sâu bọ gây ra;
- Hầu như không bị hư hại do sâu bọ gây ra;
- Vỏ quả không có độ ẩm khác thường, không kể hơi nước đọng trên quả do được lấy ra từ kho lạnh;
- Không có mùi và/ hoặc vị lạ;
- Rắn chắc;
- Trông còn tươi;
- Không bị hư hại do nhiệt độ thấp;
- Hầu như không bị thâm;
- Không bị hư hại do ánh nắng mặt trời;
- Thân quả không bị xơ;
- Không có những gai cứng;
- Không nhìn thấy những dấu hiệu nảy mầm.
