I grew up in Montreal, Canada and went to school mostly in English there. I've lived in Mexico City for since 1996; I did my Master's in Social Anthropology here, and have almost completed my Ph. D. here, too. I'm proud of my writing skills in English and Spanish, and have worked intermittently as a freelance translator for many years. I've also worked doing research in History, Archival Science and Computer Science. My B. A. is in Music Composition. During normal work hours, I am a technician at the Instituto Mora. My Ph. D. thesis is about bridging the philosophies of Computer Science and Social Science to explain what exactly it is that we do when we use compters to model qualitative data produced in social research. Though I can't call myself a linguist, language has always fascinated me, and in my thesis I draw heavily on Cognitive Linguistics, as well as on my experience as a translator and as the father of two girls raised in Spanish and English.
