I was born and brought up in Wertheim, Germany. I had 8 years of English education in German schools. At age 18, I married an American soldier and moved to the Buffalo area in the United States. I have lived now more than half of my life in the United States. I am bilingual in German and English and I know both the German and the American cultures well.
In the US, I raised a family and attended several colleges and universities to become a teacher. I have been working as a teacher since 2004. I have a Master's degree in Education with a concentration in Social Studies. I also took 30 credit hours in German classes at the University at Buffalo and earned a NY State Certification as a German teacher.
Now I work as a part-time German teacher at the Williamsville North High School in Williamsville, NY.
A few years ago, I was asked by a colleague to translate a 135 page diary her grandfather wrote, from German to English. I found this work to be very rewarding and interesting.
In November 2011 I joined the Proz.com website in order to do more translation work. In March 2012, I had a chance to translate a 10,000 word project from English to German for an Asian company. Those documents were general instructions for employees. |
