Source text - English The primary focus of this manual is in the use of IDL Version 2 which includes intrinsic IDL routines, as well as procedures and functions specifically geared toward the reduction and analysis of GHRS and other HST data. Most of the core GHRS routines were written by the DAF staff and deal with database manipulation, data calibration, and instrument evaluation. Other routines made their original debut with the IUE and UIT projects at GSFC and have been modified (usually with a name change) to fit within the GHRS environment. A third and very important class of IDL software has come from the GHRS user community.
GHRS DAF IDL routines are located in a series of sub-directories assigned to the VMS logical ZPRO. The name of the sub-directory indicates the general category into which the procedures fit. For example, the sub-directory DBASE contains the IDL database procedures, while the sub-directory STIO contains routines for reading SDAS, FITS, and other file formats. When a call is made to an IDL procedure or function, IDL first looks at the users current working directory for the procedure.
