Translator Dutch into English, mainly and occasionally English into Dutch
I specialise in life sciences, medicine, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and education. I combine my knowledge of these fields in the synergistic roles of translator and private tutor.
I have extensive experience as a laboratory-based biomedical scientist. After completing my chemistry degree in the Netherlands, I relocated to the United Kingdom to obtain my PhD in medical molecular genetics and to subsequently work as a postdoctoral research fellow.
I am a UK-qualified teacher, who tutors pre-university students in maths, biology and chemistry.
I translated over 1,200,000 words covering on a wide range of topics, including laboratory procedures, microbiology, treatment guidelines for physicians, oncology, case studies, pharmacology, biostatistics, genetically modified organisms, endocrinology and neurobiology.
The document types that I translated include laboratory manuals, reference materials, guidelines, book chapters, university course materials, and SmPCs and PILs.
I am a confident user of the CAT tool Fluency Now.
I proofread/edited 140,000 words, mainly in the field of science. The document types included book chapters, scientific articles and press releases.
I love reading around topics that interest me, such as neuroscience, pharmacokinetics and pharmacology in general. In addition to reading, I am following courses to enhance my knowledge and gain a deeper understanding of these topics. Most recently, I followed a Neuroimaging course, which expanded on a particular section of a previous Diagnostic Imaging course.
