Bio
My name is Patricia Teixidor, I am a Spanish Native with a PhD from The University of St Andrews, Scotland (UK) in Psychology who has more than 20 years experience as a freelance translator.
I translated my first book from Engligh into Spanish in 1993, while I was still a Bachelor in Psychology at the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid. I will never forget it. The title was Chimpanzee Politics: Power and Sex among Apes, by the world famous primatologist Frans de Waal. This book is still widely read and for me it meant that many of my classmates and friends could have the chance to read the thrilling stories of chimpanzees political manoeuvres in their own language. I enjoyed very much the work because it was creative and at the same time challenging. It implied the challenge of being able to transform those English words into something comprehensible to the general public.
From then onwards I have translated more than 15 books about science, mainly animal behaviour, psychology, anthropology and primatology. I have translated authours of popular science books, such as Jane Goodall, Robert Sapolsky, Mark Bekoff, Jeffrey Masson or Bruce Fogle, among others.
A few years ago I started translating fiction, the first crime novel of Joseph Harrington, The Last Known Address. Nowadays, I am working on the translation into Spanish of his second work, Blind Spot. I take pleasure in translating crime novels because it is a little like decoding scientific content…
I have also been a publisher in Spain from during 10 years. In 1999 I started my own publishing company, specialized on animal behaviour books. Ateles Editores Ltd. We published 21 books, it was a very positive experience. I was the manager and editorial director in charge of scouting in international book fairs, editing and proof reading, managing project budgets, suppliers coordination, promotion and external communications.
In my last two jobs in Spain I have gained experience as editorial coordinator, managed the production of publications at the Residencia de Estudiantes (www.residencia.csic.es), and written scientific papers into an educated lay-person language in Mapping Ignorance (mappingignorance.org).
