Bio

I was born in Ireland and grew up there and in London. With a background in book-selling and editing and contributing to literary magazines, I began my translation activity in the 1990's, a few years after taking up permanent residence in France. Since that time I have acquired a solid experience in a variety of translation environments - legal/commercial, finance, pharmaceutical, medical ( including sub-titling and transcription for medical presentation videos) and in the social sciences. Starting in 2010, I began a collaboration with the Swiss anthropologist, Dr Andrea Grieder, to translate and edit her writings on The Rwandan Genocide and its aftermath. This in turn has led to further collaborative work with other specialists in the social sciences and the humanities at large. Whatever the nature of the assignment, I approach it with a care for accuracy and fidelity towards the source text combined with a wordsmith's skill in shaping it for the target language. ( I have myself published prose and poetry as well as winning an award for one of my stage plays in 2014.) I also attach paramount importance to being attentive to the needs of my clients, both in terms of respecting deadlines and in terms of adapting the finished product to their entire satisfaction.

Published translations include: "Rwanda, Healing and the Aesthetics of Poetry" Andrea Grieder (Bloomsbury University Press, London, 2015). "An adventure called 'Sishu' " Guillaume Dutournier and Wang Yuchen (Brill Publishing, Boston 2018). "Thresholds, Windows and Doors: Places of 'In Between' " Anne-Marie Reijnen ( Revue de Philologie et de Communication interculturelle, 2018.).

Other noteworthy translation achievements: OCP Group Newsletter, summer 2016. 35 articles totalling 30,000 words plus, with technical, commercial, human interest and cultural/artistic content destined for the employees and partners of the world's leading producer of phosphates - delivered in a turnaround time of 10 days.

Audio/Video: Translation for voice-over commentary: "A new look" Guided visit to the zoo at La Palmyre, François Derive, Digital Prod, 2017. Translation of commentary and sub-titling with time code: "Dibboukim" Documentary on the survival of the Yiddish language, David Waldman, 2017. Turnaround time of 72 hours and 48 hours respectively.

Writing: Winner of the Best Play Award at the Montmartre Dionysia Festival, Paris, 2014. Editor of Pharos, a bi annual literary magazine, published by the British Council, Paris, 1999 - 2001. Invited to organise the workshop "Seeing through the eyes of others, on-stage and off" at the UNESCO - CEPES Conference in Sibiu, Romania, November 2009.
