I am a freelance translator and I work from English into Polish. I specialize in Subtitling, IT, Website/Software Localization, Graphic Design and Intellectual Property Documentation.
I graduated from the University of Surrey in September 2010. The MA course in Audiovisual Translation offered not only a thorough insight into the theory of translation but also helped me gain hands-on experience in subtitling. The software mastered for the production of subtitles was Swift. My final project – subtitling of the film Dragonheart – was granted a distinction and can be viewed upon request as part of my portfolio.
Since the graduation I have been working as a freelance translator and I have finished translation internship in mLingua (Poland). Gaining more practice in the field influenced me to broaden my knowledge of the industry. As a result I took up a course in localization, that gave me a thorough insight into the theory and practice of software, game and website translation. Soon after I took up yet another course, a postgraduate diploma in graphic design, to fully prepare myself for the vast market of the media and software translation. Both of the mentioned courses are self-taught and require working from home, which place emphasis on self-discipline and working to deadlines.
I wish to add that working for my previous employer (Boult Wade Tennant, Patent & Trade Mark Attorneys, London) for over 5 years has contributed profoundly to my professional development. I have not only gained profound knowledge in the area of Intellectual Property law and administration, but also learnt to work in a busy environment, where teamwork, accuracy, attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines are of vital importance. I have gained broad computer literacy, developed communication skills and broadened the spectrum of knowledge about the English language and culture, which I believe is essential in translation.
Please note that I am registered as a self-employed in the UK. I use Trados 2011 for all translation projects, Passolo 2011 for localization and EZTitles v.4 for subtitling. I have a great deal of experience using CAT tools and I have overtime built a collection of TMs and TBs that I use for new translation projects. I am responsible and reliable and I always take up any new project with passion and full commitment.
