Source text - German Wenn das Handy zweimal klingelt 17. Januar 2009. Vergessen wir einmal den Welterfolg eines gescheiten und unterhaltsamen Buches namens "Die Vermessung der Welt"; vergessen wir die Reizbarkeit der Kritiker, in deren Vorstellung die Worte "gescheit" und "Welterfolg" nicht zusammenpassen; vergessen wir den Ruhm des Schriftstellers Daniel Kehlmann. Lesen wir stattdessen Leo Richter. "Ein Roman ohne Hauptfigur!" lautet die großartige, wenn auch nicht ganz neue Idee, die dieser so berühmte wie fiktive Schriftsteller seiner Freundin im zweiten Kapitel mitteilt, in eben dem Augenblick, in dem der Leser dieses Buches sich über den plötzlichen Figurenwechsel wundert: "Die Komposition, die Verbindungen, der Bogen, aber kein Protagonist, kein durchgehender Held." Der Dichter ist ein Egomane und Neurotiker, "Autor vertrackter Kurzgeschichten voller Spiegelungen und unerwartbarer Volten von einer leicht sterilen Brillanz". Was sich aus den neun ineinander verspiegelten Geschichten dieses Buches entwickelt, ist der Roman eines Romans. Es ist ein Buch von funkelnder Intelligenz. Und es besitzt vom ersten Satz an eine Spannung, die unwiderstehlich ist. Im genauen Gegensatz zur eitlen Selbstbespiegelung eines Bestsellerautors, die manche Kritiker vorab befürchteten, entwirft Kehlmanns "Ruhm" das facettierte Bild einer Welt, in der alle Figuren fortwährend versuchen, mehrere Leben zu führen, gleichzeitig oder nacheinander und mit Hilfe des Internets oder des Mobiltelefons, durch die sie jederzeit überall dabei sein und das Geschehen umlenken können. Sie alle leben in den Fiktionen, die sie von sich selbst erfinden und die den Mustern von Büchern, Filmen oder Computerspielen folgen wie mythischen Archetypen. [...] Mit dem Läuten eines Telefons beginnt und endet es. Auch zwischendrin ist das bekannte Geräusch oft zu hören, und fast immer geht damit eine Verwirrung und Verschiebung der Wirklichkeitsebenen einher. Das Mobiltelefon, bemerkt eine Figur, "nimmt die Wirklichkeit aus allem". Wer sich seiner bedient, kann jederzeit überall und nirgends sein, es dehnt die virtuellen Räume des Internets aus bis in die Manteltaschen. Da erhält ein Computertechniker unverhofft lauter Anrufe, die einem ganz anderen gelten, so lange, bis er wie von selbst in dessen Leben einzugreifen beginnt. Unerforschlich ist die Ursache, unbekannt der andere - jedenfalls für ihn, den Betroffenen selbst. Wir Leser hingegen erfahren in der vorletzten Geschichte vom Rechnerfehler in der Telefonfirma, von den zuständigen und ihrerseits in diverse Doppelleben verwickelten Sachbearbeitern. Bis dahin haben wir auch den eigentlichen Adressaten jener Anrufe längst kennengelernt, den populären Schauspieler, der nicht nur erlebt, wie sein Telefon von einem Moment zum nächsten verstummt, sondern auch, wie er von der eigenen Kopie in Gestalt eines talentierten Imitators aus seinem Leben gedrängt wird, bis er schließlich befreit ein Dasein verlässt, dessen er ohnehin längst müde geworden ist. Ein Doppelleben führt auch der Mann, der zwischen den Welten der
Ehefrau und der Geliebten mittels immer waghalsigerer Handy-Nachrichten balanciert, bis er stirbt - ob buchstäblich oder nur vor Peinlichkeit, das bleibt in der Schwebe. (Erzählt er also aus dem Totenreich oder bloß von nebenan?) Er ist der Vorgesetzte eines Internet-Nerd, der alles dafür geben würde, zur Figur in einer Geschichte von Leo Richter zu werden, und der für das Telefondurcheinander des Anfangs mitverantwortlich ist, das wiederum dazu führt, dass der Verzweifelte, der auf Seite zwanzig einem Wildfremden sein Herz ausschüttet, infolge dieses Telefonats seinem Leben ein Ende setzen wird (wie wir sechzig Seiten später vom eigentlich Gemeinten erfahren). éxito mundial de un libro inteligente y entretenido titulado "La medición del mundo", olvidemos la irritabilidad del crítico según el cual las palabras "inteligente" y "éxito mundial" no combinan, olvidemos la fama del escritor Daniel Kehlmann. Leamos en su lugar a Leo Richter. "¡Una novela sin protagonista!", esta es la grandiosa y novedosa idea que este conocido escritor de ficción) le revela a su novia en el segundo capítulo, justo en el momento en que el lector es sorprendido por el cambio de personajes: "La composición, las relaciones, los recovecos, pero sin protagonista, el eterno héroe no existe”. El poeta es un ególatra y un neurótico, un autor de complicadas historias llenas de destellos y de inesperados voltios de una brillantez exuberante". Lo que se extrae (
de las nueve historias de este libro reflejadas entre sí es la novela de una novela. Es un libro de una inteligencia resplandeciente que desde la primera línea mantiene una tensión incuestionable. La fama de Kehlmann, justamente al contrario de ese vanidoso autorreflejo de los autores de bestsellers que muchos críticos temen de antemano, proyecta una imagen de un mundo dividido en facetas, en el que todos los personajes intentan dirigir varias vidas, bien al mismo tiempo o bien una tras otra. Con la ayuda de internet o del teléfono móvil pasan a estar en cualquier momento y en cualquier lugar, y pueden cambiar los acontecimientos.
Todos viven esas vidas ficticias que ellos mismos se inventan y que siguen los patrones
de libros, películas o juegos de ordenador como místicos arquetipos. [...] Todo empieza
y acaba con el sonido de un teléfono. También se escucha varias veces el famoso sonido
en medio de la historia, y casi siempre viene acompañado de confusión y cambios en
las dimensiones de la realidad. “El teléfono móvil se lleva consigo la realidad” dice uno de los personajes. Aquel que contesta puede pasar a estar en todas partes y en ninguna a la vez, los espacios virtuales se extienden hasta llegar a los bolsillos del abrigo. Luego un técnico informático recibe inesperadas y sonoras llamadas con consecuencias muy diferentes hasta que él mismo comienza a participar en ellas. El porqué es una incógnita, los demás lo desconocen, así como el propio afectado. A nosotros los lectores, por el contrario, nos hablan en la historia previa de los errores informáticos que cometen los encargados de la empresa telefónica que a su vez están envueltos en diversas dobles vidas. En este punto hace ya tiempo que conocemos también a los receptores de cada llamada. El actor, que no solo experimenta cómo su teléfono enmudece de un momento a otro, sino que ve también cómo una copia de sí mismo representado por un imitador con talento le fuerza a salir de su propia vida hasta que el imitador al final termina dejando libre aquellas vidas de las que ya se había cansado hacía tiempo. También se cuenta la historia de un hombre que lleva una doble vida entre el mundo de su mujer y el de su amante, siempre haciendo malabarismos con arriesgados mensajes de móvil, hasta que al final muere, no sabemos si literalmente o solo de vergüenza. (¿Nos llegarán sus relatos desde el reino de los muertos?) Trabaja de supervisor de un friqui de la informática que lo daría todo por salir en una de las historias de Leo Richter y que es en parte responsable del caos telefónico del comienzo del libro que provoca que este personaje, que en la página veinte le abre su corazón a un completo desconocido, termine poniendo fin a su vida a causa de esta llamada telefónica (como descubrimos sesenta páginas más tarde)...
