ProSiebenSat1, the German media Goliath, has proved it's still fully in tune with the music streaming market by snapping up a stake in French startupDeezer. The deal puts them in a strong position to take on its digital music rivals, while showing the energising effect that a startup can bring to an established market.
The deal will see ProSiebenSat1 merge their music streaming brand, AMPYA, into Deezer's platform, providing it with a colossal music library consisting of an extra 20 million songs. The Paris-based company already holds 30 million licensed tracks in its library, and currently has 16 million active users across 180 countries. Compare that to Spotify's 40million users, and it's easy to see the potential.
Deezer's European Vice President, Gerrit Schumann, said: "With the reach of ProSiebenSat1 Group, we will be allowing an even larger audience unlimited access to our music catalogue."
The deal has managed to strike a chord with other areas of the music streaming industry, too. North American startupSongza is reportedly a target for Google, while Apple has recently acquired Beats Music as part of its $3 billion purchase of Beats Electronics, and London-based 7Digital has merged with UPC Music Group.
This stunning level of growth and consolidation can only encourage new innovative enterprises to hit the high notes, and plenty of startups are already gearing up to follow in the footsteps of Deezer.

La start-up parisienne propose pour sa part 30 millions de titres sous licence et dénombre 16 millions d'utilisateurs actifs dans 180 pays. Le potentiel de cette coopération apparaît clairement lorsqu'on sait que le concurrent Spotify revendique 40 millions d'utilisateurs.
Gerrit Schumann, vice-président de Deezer Europe ne s'y trompe d'ailleurs pas : « Avec le groupe ProSiebenSat1, nous allons atteindre un public encore plus large qui bénéficiera d'un accès illimité à notre catalogue musical. »
En outre, l'accord est parvenu à trouver un écho chez les autres acteurs du streaming audio : la start-up nord-américaine Songza se trouverait dans la ligne de mire de Google, Apple a récemment fait l'acquisition de Beats Music dans le cadre du rachat de Beats Electronics pour 3 milliards de dollars et 7Digital, basé à Londres, a fusionné avec UPC Music Group.
Un tel niveau de croissance et de fusion donne le ton et ne peut qu'encourager les jeunes entreprises innovantes à voler vers le succès. De nombreuses jeunes pousses sont déjà dans les starting-blocks pour suivre les pas de Deezer.

I am fully qualified since I have a Master 2 in Translation and Technical Writing from the university of Brest, France, and I worked both in France as an in-house English to French/Canadian French Translator in e2f, a translation agency, and in RWS near London where I used to work as an in-house Translation Checker, which allowed me to develop excellent writing skills in French.
My most recent works include the translation of user interfaces for a banking company, the translation of marketing documents for a company in the food industry, or the translation of the website of a well-known recruitment agency from English to Canadian French.
