Source text - English Jeff was at The Golden Fleece with his buddy Colin. It was a tiny pub that couldn't hold more than thirty or forty people but it was close to Jeff's place and he liked it. It was owned by an old Irish couple, Sean and Maggie. They knew Jeff well from his frequent visits and always kept an eye on him in case he got too sloppy. Jeff liked the dark wood panel walls and the usual patrons gave it a nice atmosphere. There was the old Scottish lady who came in every night and drank tea while she watched the evening news with the owners. She always said the same things.
"That's just terrible," she said when the news was bad. If a feel-good piece was on, her comment was just as predictable. "Isn't that lovely?" She would look around at everyone for confirmation. There were the hipsters at the dart board who mused about how they always played better with a pint or two in them. Colin fiddled with some wires and lights on the small stage before he went on. He played a set of obscure Brit-rock covers.

Ele gostava dos painéis escuros que revestiam as paredes, o fregueses habituais que também davam um clima agradável ao ambiente. Havia uma senhora escocesa que vinha todas noites para beber chá enquanto assistia ao noticiário com os donos do local. Ela sempre dizia as mesmas coisas
-Que horror! - Dizia quando as notícias eram ruins. Se eram boas, o comentário era tão previsível quanto:
- Isso não é maravilhoso? E ainda olhava para todos ao redor buscando validação. Havia também alguns hipsters que devaneavam a respeito de como jogavam dardos muito melhor depois de beberem um ou dois copos de cerveja. Colin remexia alguns fios e luzes no pequeno palco antes de continuar sua apresentação, ele fazia um cover de várias músicas sombrias de rock britânico.

Source text - English Cholesterol is a peculiar molecule. It is often called a lipid or a fat. However, the chemical term for a molecule such as cholesterol is alcohol, although it doesn't behave like alcohol. Its numerous carbon and hydrogen atoms are put together in an intricate three dimensional network, impossible to dissolve in water. All living creatures use this indissolvability cleverly, incorporating cholesterol into their cell walls to make cells waterproof. This means that cells of living creatures can regulate their internal environment undisturbed by changes in their surroundings, a mechanism vital for proper function. The fact that cells are waterproof is especially critical for the normal functioning of nerves and nerve cells. Thus, the highest concentration of cholesterol in the body is found in the brain and other parts of the nervous system.
Because cholesterol is insoluble in water and thus also in blood, it is transported in our blood inside spheric particles composed of fats (lipids) and proteins, the so-called lipoproteins. Lipoproteins are easily dissolved in water because their outside is composed mainly of water-soluble proteins. The inside of the lipoproteins is composed of lipids, and here are room for water-insoluble molecules such as cholesterol. Like submarines, lipoproteins carry cholesterol from one place in the body to another.
The submarines, or lipoproteins, have various names according to their density. The best known are HDL (High Density Lipoprotein), and LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein). The main task of HDL is to carry cholesterol from the peripheral tissues, including the artery walls, to the liver. Here it is excreted with the bile, or used for other purposes, for instance as a starting point for the manufacture of important hormones. The LDL submarines mainly transport cholesterol in the opposite direction. They carry it from the liver, where most of our body's cholesterol is produced, to the peripheral tissues, including the vascular walls. When cells need cholesterol, they call for the LDL submarines, which then deliver cholesterol into the interior of the cells. Most of the cholesterol in the blood, between 60 and 80 per cent, is transported by LDL and is called ”bad” cholesterol, for reasons that I shall explain soon. Only 15-20 percent is transported by HDL and called ”good” cholesterol. A small part of the circulating cholesterol is transported by other lipoproteins.

Seus inúmeros átomos de hidrogênio de carbono estão ligados em uma intrincada cadeia de tridimensional impossível de ser dissolvida em água. Todas as criaturas vivas se utilizam sabiamente dessa indissolubilidade, incorporando o colesterol nas paredes de suas células para torná-las à prova d'água. Isso significa que as células das criaturas vivas podem regular seu ambiente interno de modo que ele não seja prejudicado por mudanças ao seu redor, um mecanismo vital para seu funcionamento adequado. O fato das células serem à prova d'água é sobretudo crítico para o normal funcionamento dos nervos e das células nervosas.
Pelo fato do colesterol ser insolúvel em água e,portanto, também não sangue, é transportado por ele dentro de partículas esféricas compostas de gorduras(lípidos) e proteínas, mais conhecidas como lipoproteínas. Lipoproteínas são facilmente dissolvidas em águas por que seu exterior é composto principalmente de proteínas solúveis em água. O interior das lipoproteínas é composto de lipídios, e já espaço para moléculas como o colesterol. Assim como os submarinos, as lipoproteínas carregam o colesterol de um lado para o outro no corpo.
Os submarinos, ou lipoproteínas, tem vários nomes de acordo com sua densidade. As mais conhecidas são a HDL(Lipoproteína de Alta Densidade) e a LDL(Lipoproteína de Baixa Densidade). A principal função do HDL é levar o colesterol dos tecidos periféricos, incluindo as artérias, até o fígado. Aqui ele é excretado com a bile, ou usado para outros propósitos como, por exemplo, ponto de partida para a produção de importantes hormônios. Os submarinos LDL transportam o colesterol na direção oposta. Eles o levam do fígado, onde a maioria do nosso colesterol é produzido, para os tecidos periféricos, incluindo as paredes vasculares. Quando as células precisam de colesterol, eles chamam pelos submarinos LDL, os quais então distribuem o colesterol pelo interior das células. A maioria do colesterol no sangue, entre 60 e 80 por cento, é transportado pelo LDL e é chamado de colesterol ruim, por razões que explicarei em breve.
