Chinese to English: 筑梦南极 The Antarctic Dream General field: Science Detailed field: Media / Multimedia
Source text - Chinese
Translation - English Meteorites are natural objects from outer space that have survived impact with the surface of Earth. The unique environment in Antarctica proves to be a perfect place to preserve these alien visitors. So far, the world has collected more than 30,000 meteorite specimens in Antarctica, representing over two-thirds of the global collection. In 1998, a small group of Chinese scientists made a risky decision to enter the Grove Mountains, initiating China’s search for meteorites in inland Antarctica.
For those who have never been to Antarctica, it is very difficult to imagine just how vast and barren the white continent is. And for those who are fortunate enough to set foot on this land, it is very easy to realize just how small and insignificant a person can be.
English to Chinese: Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Poetry & Literature
Source text - English Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night
Dylan Thomas
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at the close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray,
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Translation - Chinese

Experience
Years of experience: 33. Registered at ProZ.com: Jul 2015.
Educated in China and the states, I have published in both Chinese and English, including poems, essays, literary translations, as well as book chapters on religion/spirituality and international development. A philosophical fiction with autobiographical elements entitled The Little Princess was published in China in November 2010. A professional news translator for many years, I now offer high-quality freelancing services to complement the satisfaction of keeping a demanding day job as a policy analyst. While I often find translating materials of a literary nature the most rewarding experience, I have also had a great amount of fun dealing with subjects as diverse as life itself: snacks, ethnic minorities, history, politics, polar explorations, the Silk Road, military weapons, etc. One learns as much as one translates.
